Some 19,000 Ukrainian families already receive UAH 1.5 bln in payments for damaged property – Shmyhal

KYIV. Oct 31 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Some 19,000 Ukrainian families have already received UAH 1.5 billion in compensation for property damaged by the Russian occupiers, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal has said.

“Some UAH 1.5 billion has already been paid for property damaged by the Russians. Around 19,000 families have received funds. The greatest need is in Kharkiv, Kyiv, and Mykolaiv regions. Local authorities there must make every effort to quickly record the damage and review applications in a timely manner,” he said at a government meeting on Tuesday.

As for the destroyed property, according to the prime minister, almost 5,000 requests have been received from citizens, and 346 certificates have already been generated in the Diia mobile application.

He also said that the average value of each certificate is around UAH 2 million, and people will soon be able to use these funds to buy new housing.

“The third component of the program is compensation for repairs carried out at one’s own expense. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed the corresponding law. Payments will begin in 2024. The mechanism will be simple and clear, similar to other components of eRecovery,” Shmyhal said.
