KYIV. Oct 31 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine has repeatedly stressed that the world should “with the utmost care” monitor the growth of deep anti-Semitism in Russian society, the incident in Dagestan did not happen by chance, said Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba.
“I am sorry to say this, but we have repeatedly stressed that the world should be very careful and monitor the growth of deep anti-Semitism in Russian society with the utmost care. And we have seen from the Russian leadership, from Putin and Lavrov, offensive statements of an anti-Semitic nature, even before the war in the Middle East began,” Kuleba said in an interview with the Indian English-language TV channel Times Now.
Commenting on the recent incident in Makhachkala, the minister noted that “in Dagestan it happened not by chance also because this region is full of protest sentiments in Russia.” So, according to Kuleba, “this region has the highest risk of a “surge” for any reason,” in particular, recalling that more than a year ago this region began protesting against the mobilization of its people into the Russian army for military operations against Ukraine.
“We must be very tough on any manifestations of anti-Semitism and chauvinism, which are very common in Russia. And secondly, pay close attention to what is happening in Dagestan, because this is a region that can ‘flare up’ at any moment,” the Ukrainian Foreign Minister said.
As reported, on October 29, in Makhachkala, a crowd of people broke into the airport runway after the arrival of a flight from Tel Aviv, they shouted anti-Semitic slogans and tried to storm the plane.
