Enemy conducting active counterattack in Bakhmut axis, mass 'cannon fodder assaults' continue in Avdiyivka axis – National Guard

KYIV. Nov 2 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The enemy has been conducting an active counterattack in the Bakhmut axis and continuing mass “cannon fodder assaults” in several areas of the Avdiyivka axis, sustaining tremendous losses, Acting Head of the Planning Department of the Main Directorate of the National Guard of Ukraine Mykola Urshalovych has said.

“In the Bakhmut axis, in the Klischiyivka area, intense fighting continues. The enemy has been constantly and actively counterattacking with the aim of stopping further advancement of our detachments and taking back the lost positions,” he said at a press briefing hosted by the Military Media Center on Thursday.

Urshalovych stressed that fighters from the 5th Brigade of the National Guard, as part of the defense forces, repel enemy attacks without losing previously achieved successes.

“In the Avdiyivka axis, the enemy continues mass ‘cannon fodder assaults’ in several directions, sustaining tremendous losses in personnel and military hardware,” the National Guard said.

The National Guard’s OMEGA special force units professionally carry out reconnaissance, shock-search, sniper, and counter-sniper operations in the vicinity of Avdiyivka, around-the-clock causing losses in enemy personnel and equipment, Urshalovych said.

He also said that during the past week the enemy conducted offensive and searched weak places in the Ukrainian defense in the Kupiansk and Lyman axes.
