KYIV. Nov 4 (Interfax-Ukraine) – According to the legislation of Ukraine, commanders of each type of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are appointed and dismissed by the president of Ukraine upon request from the Defense Ministry. Such a request for the dismissal of former Commander of the Special Operations Forces (SOF) of Ukraine Viktor Khorenko was received in line with the current legislation, Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Roman Mashovets has said.
“According to the law of Ukraine on national security, commanders of each type of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are appointed and dismissed by the president of Ukraine upon request from the Defense Minister of Ukraine. The Office of the President received such a request in line with the current legislation,” he said in a commentary to the Interfax-Ukraine News Agency on Saturday.
As reported, on November 3, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy dismissed Viktor Khorenko as Commander of the SOF and appointed Serhiy Lupanchuk to this position. The head of state said that the ex-commander will continue to carry out special tasks as part of the Main Intelligence Agency of the Ministry of Defense.
Later, Khorenko said that he learned about his dismissal from the media.
