KYIV. Nov 20 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine is developing a standard of legislative reciprocity for the Romanian and Hungarian national minorities, Verkhovna Rada Chairman Ruslan Stefanchuk has said.
“We are currently developing such a small standard which will fully duplicate the legislation that exists in Romania or in Hungary [for the Ukrainian national minority]. It will reciprocate the same norms,” he said on the air of the national telethon on Monday.
Stefanchuk recalled that earlier there was a similar precedent when Poland adopted a special law in relation to Ukrainians, and Ukraine adopted respective reciprocal legislation for the citizens of Poland.
He also said that the main principle of the international law – reciprocity – should be observed in bilateral relations.
“We have laid it in the fundamental bill on national minorities and communities. Thus, if the other side does certain things for our community, then we are ready to reciprocally do relevant steps in Ukraine for this community,” Stefanchuk said.
