Bodies of 94 Ukrainian defenders returned to government-controlled territory

KYIV. Nov 20 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine has managed to return the bodies of 94 fallen defenders to the government-controlled territory on Monday, according to the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.

“In line with the International Humanitarian Law, the bodies (remains) of combatants killed as a result of the armed aggression against Ukraine were transferred to the other side. The AFU [Armed Forces of Ukraine] will ensure the transportation of the repatriated bodies and remains to the specialized institutions determined by the government in order to transfer them to law enforcers and forensic experts for the identification of the deceased,” it said on the Telegram channel.

The procedure was carried out by the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War in cooperation with the United Center under the Security Service of Ukraine, the Interior Ministry of Ukraine (the Secretariat of the Commissioner for Persons Missing in Special Circumstances), the AFU (the Central Department of the Civilian and Military Cooperation), the Main Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Sumy region, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, and other representatives of the security and defense sector of Ukraine with the assistance and direct participation of the International Committee of the Red Cross.
