KYIV. Nov 20 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrainian energy facilities, in preparation for the heating season and predicted missile and drone attacks by Russia, received three levels of physical protection.
“The first level is protection from blast waves or indirect attacks by Shahed (gabions, sandbags). Some 90 facilities in 21 regions are protected in this way,” Speaker of the Ukrainian Volunteer Army – South, head of the Public Council within Odesa Regional Military Administration Serhiy Bratchuk said in a Telegram channel on Monday.
According to him, the second level is protection structures against direct hits from drones. Some 22 substations and 63 autotransformers in 14 regions are protected in this way.
“The third is large-scale structures for combined protection against missiles. They were erected in 14 regions, they protect 22 substations,” Bratchuk said.
As reported, in March 2023, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal said Ukraine has projects to strengthen the physical protection of generation facilities and energy infrastructure and will actively implement them throughout the year in preparation for the 2023-2024 heating season.
