KYIV. Nov 21 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Some 52.6% of Ukrainians consider the Revolution of Dignity an event that radically changed the course of Ukrainian history, according to a study by the Democratic Initiatives Foundation along with the Operational Sociology company.
In particular, when asked what the Revolution of Dignity was for respondents, some 52.6% answered that this was an event that radically changed the course of Ukrainian history, while 23.4% – public protest against corruption, arbitrariness of the security forces and slide into dictatorship, some 17.5% – mass protest against Yanukovych, some 14.3% – the beginning of the current Russian-Ukrainian war, some 14.2% – public resistance to intentions to abandon the course of European integration and drawing the country into an alliance with Russia, some 5.5% – Illegal coup d’etat, some 4.2% – a paid action of opposition politicians, some 3.5% – a geopolitical game under the influence of the EU and the United States, some 2% – other, and 9.6% did not answer.
Respondents were also asked whether they take part in the annual celebration of the memory of the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred. Thus, 27.9% answered that never, some 32.8% answered that sometimes, some 35.3% – always, and 4.1% did not answer.
The sociological study “Knowledge of Ukrainian citizens about the country’s history, attitude towards events and figures of history and government policy in the field of restoration and preservation of national memory” was carried out by order of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory in July-August 2023. Some 1,875 respondents were surveyed. The statistical error does not exceed 2.26%.
