Dutch Defense Minister hopes that next govt won’t refuse to participate in program to transfer F-16 to Ukraine

KYIV. Nov 24 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Acting Defense Minister of the Netherlands Kaisa Ollongren expects that the next government, which could be headed by leader of the victorious Freedom Party, Geert Wilders, will continue to help Ukraine, including with F-16 fighters, the Associated Press reported on Friday.

“I hope and expect that support will continue,” Ollongren told reporters, speaking about assistance to Ukraine.

The agency recalls that Wilders’ election program states: “We will not transfer our money and military equipment, such as the F-16, to Ukraine.”

Coalition consultations are currently underway in the Netherlands. According to Dutch News, the most likely coalition is the right-wing Freedom Party with the center-right Peasant-Civic Party, the New Social Contract and the People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy. At the same time, the winning party may make certain concessions to conclude a coalition, including on the Ukrainian issue, European media note.

The Netherlands and Denmark lead the F-16 coalition, within which Ukrainian pilots are trained. Both countries also announced their intention to provide Ukraine with F-16 aircraft in the future.
