By KYIV. Nov 28 (Interfax-Ukraine) – NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the organization’s countries continue to support plans for Ukraine to join the North Atlantic Alliance.
“Allies reiterated determination to support Ukraine on its path to NATO. And unwavering support as the Ukrainians bravely defend their country,” the alliance’s secretary general said on Tuesday at a press conference in Brussels after the first day of a meeting of NATO foreign ministers.
According to him, in recent days important statements have been made in support of Kyiv. In particular, Germany promised to allocate EUR 8 billion for the defense of Ukraine next year, and the Netherlands – more than EUR 2 billion. Romania, he continued, has opened a training center for Ukrainian F-16 fighter pilots.
“Allies including the US and Finland are sending more air defences and ammunition. And 20 Allies have established an air defence coalition for Ukraine,” Stoltenberg said.
He added that by doing so, NATO “sends a message to Russia that our support will not falter.”
