KYIV. Nov 29 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Synchronisation of the Ukrainian and European energy systems has been successfully completed, the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E) reported.
“The Continental European TSOs are pleased to announce that Ukrenergo, the Ukrainian TSO, has achieved compliance with the key technical requirements necessary to enable a permanent interconnection between the power systems of Continental Europe and Ukraine,” ENTSO-E said on its website on Tuesday.
“ENTSO-E welcomes the new level of cooperation between the Continental European TSOs and Ukrenergo. This development not only enhances regional energy security, but also promotes a more integrated and efficient energy market,” ENTSO-E President Zbyněk Boldiš said.
It also underlines our ongoing efforts to ensure a resilient and integrated electricity network and to foster cooperation among European TSOs, he said.
As reported on the website, on 16 March 2022, an emergency synchronisation was achieved as a signal of solidarity between the Continental European TSOs and Ukrenergo. Since then, Ukrenergo has made extraordinary efforts, under difficult wartime conditions, to achieve full compliance with the operational rules.
Ukrenergo, for its part, explained that the technical conditions – the Catalog of Activities – were enshrined in the agreement on the terms of the future unification of the power systems of Ukraine and continental Europe, signed in 2017. The catalog contains more than 200 technical events in nine areas. All these events are an integral part of the Factsheet Synchronous Area Framework Agreement (SAFA), which Ukrenergo also joins.
“We greatly appreciate today’s decision and I’m sure that this achievement will help to significantly increase the flexibility and reliability of our grid operation and create conditions for expanding cooperation. This is the result of many years of persistent work, which has been particularly challenging since the outbreak of full-scale war. We are grateful to ENTSO-E for its continued support and trust throughout this process,” Volodymyr Kudrytsky, Board Chairman of NPC Ukrenergo, whose words are given in the company’s release.
As reported, on the same day, ENTSO-E decided to expand the capacity limit for electricity trade from Continental Europe to Ukraine and Moldova to from 1,200 MW to 1,700 megawatts.
