KYIV. Dec 4 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The U.S. Department of Justice is making significant efforts to help Ukraine prosecute war crimes, in particular, Task Force KleptoCapture, in collaboration with international partners, has seized hundreds of millions of dollars in assets of Russian oligarchs.
As reported in the Telegram channel of the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) of Ukraine on Sunday, this was stated by Head of the U.S. Department of Justice team for investigating war crimes Eli Rosenbaum at the conference “United for Justice. War Crimes against Ukrainian Children” held in Toronto (Canada).
Rosenbaum said they have indicted dozens of individuals suspected of sanctions evasion, export control violations, money laundering and other crimes. The proceeds were transferred to their Department of Justice for use in favor of Ukraine.
A special War Crimes Accountability Team, WarCAT, has also been established, whose task is to investigate crimes falling under U.S. jurisdiction. The FBI and other government agencies are involved in the work. According to the U.S. Justice Department spokesman, they are working to help their international partners, especially their Ukrainian counterparts, who do the lion’s share of the work in investigating and prosecuting crimes.
Rosenbaum also said he has developed close cooperation with Prosecutor General of Ukraine Andriy Kostin and other Ukrainian prosecutors. According to him, Ukraine is doing what no country in history has done: providing comprehensive justice for brutal crimes and aggression while defending itself in the face of ongoing large-scale war.
