Klitschko opens third section of Big Ring Road in Kyiv – authorities

KYIV. Dec 5 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko opened the third finished section of the Big Orbital Road from Bohatyrska Street to Obolonsky Avenue with a length of 1.1 km, Kyiv City State Administration has reported.

“We have completed the construction of a new – already third – section of the Big Ring Road. We began building these new sections in 2016. In fact, this is the Northern Bypass Road of Kyiv. Today, we opened a part of the Big Ring Road from Bohatyrska Street to Obolonsky Avenue. The city has committed itself to making an access road to the tunnel under the Dnipro River, which will connect the left and right banks and go to Troyeschyna,” the press service quoted Klitschko.

The mayor added that “the tunnel is a project of the State Agency for Reconstruction and Infrastructure Development. And the agency must build it. We are fulfilling our obligations step by step. And from today, traffic jams on Bohatyrska Street will decrease, because part of the transport will go along the new section, in particular on Obolonsky Avenue.”

Klitschko also said that the construction of three new sections of the Big Orbital Road brings the road to the future tunnel.

“And when the state builds it, the traffic load on the Kyiv’s roads and the number of transit vehicles passing through the city center and across bridges across the Dnieper will decrease. This will also affect the environment – it will reduce gas pollution, which is one of the biggest issues in the transport industry,” the mayor said.
