KYIV. Dec 13 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Olena Kondratiuk asked Latvian Minister of Health Hosams Abu Meri to continue in 2024 the program of treatment and rehabilitation of Ukrainian military personnel injured as a result of armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
“Already 237 Ukrainian soldiers have received assistance with treatment and recovery in Latvia, in particular at the National Rehabilitation Center Vaivari. We see truly positive results from such rehabilitation. I appealed to the Minister and the Latvian government to continue this program next year,” Kondratiuk wrote on Facebook following her meeting with Hosams Abu Meri.
On behalf of Ukraine, she expressed gratitude to Latvia for the decision to donate 67 ambulances to Ukrainian medical institutions, police and the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
“Some 30 ambulances have already been delivered to Ukraine,” the deputy speaker noted.
In turn, Hosams Abu Meri emphasized that Latvia would continue to provide support to Ukraine in all areas, including in the medical field.
“In a conversation with Hosams Abu Meri, I raised another extremely pressing need – psychological assistance and rehabilitation in Latvia for Ukrainian children affected by the war. Especially illegally deported children and teenagers who were pulled out of Russian captivity and returned to Ukraine. We hope, with the help of friendly Latvia, to help restore their mental health,” Kondratiuk said.
The Deputy Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament is on a visit to Latvia.
