KYIV. Dec 15 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Law enforcement officers have registered criminal proceedings on the fact of the non-admission of children to a school shelter in Sviatoshynsky district of Kyiv, Kyiv City Military Administration reports.
“In Sviatoshynsky district of the capital, during an air raid siren, two children – an 11-year-old girl and a 12-year-old boy tried to get to shelter at the school where they study. But the guard did not let them in, allegedly because the children were with a dog,” the Telegram channel says.
“Sviatoshynska District Prosecutor’s office has launched a pretrial investigation into the fact of ‘deliberately leaving children without help, who were in a life-threatening condition and were deprived of the opportunity to take measures for self-preservation.’”
“As the head of the military administration of Kyiv, I will keep this case under personal control. And here it is important not only to find the culprits, but also to find out the main thing – why such a precedent arose! What guided this official!? Therefore, now I appeal to every head who is responsible for a complex of shelters or for one specific shelter in the city – conduct an internal audit and explanatory work with the staff responsible for admitting people! Everyone should understand and follow the peremptory rule – all shelters should be open during an alarm and accessible to all residents of Kyiv without exception! It’s a matter of life! No one will forgive you for mistakes! And you will not forgive yourself,” said head of Kyiv City Military Administration Serhiy Popko.
It is noted that the military administration will take all measures (even unpopular ones, if necessary) so that such egregious cases do not happen again and all Kyiv residents feel protected in their hometown.
