Number of Ukrainian border crossings up by 9.2% this week – Border Service

KYIV. Dec 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The number of Ukrainian border crossings this week, from December 9 to 15, increased by 9.2% compared to the previous week – to 453,000, and vehicles allowed through – by 9.3%, to 118,000, whereas previously the flow across the border had been declining for six weeks in a row.

According to the State Border Service, the flow of people entering/exiting Ukraine for the fifth week in a row remains approximately equal: exit crossings increased from 206,000 in the previous week to 229,000 this week, while entry crossings increased from 209,000 to 224,000.

The number of cleared vehicles with humanitarian cargo, which fell to 515 in the first week of December after the new procedure for their customs clearance came into force, this week increased to 708, which is still less than 860-900 in the second half of November and 760-805 in the first.

The Polish Border Service this week also recorded approximately equal entry/exit flows, with an increase in total passenger traffic by 11.1% – to 283,800.

According to the Polish agency, the number of those who entered Poland from Ukraine in a week increased from 127,500 people to 141,000 people, while those traveling in the opposite direction increased from 128,000 people to 142,800 people.

In total, since the beginning of the war, by December 8, 2023, some 17.72 million people had arrived in Poland from Ukraine, while 15.92 million people had traveled in the opposite direction.

As reported, from May 10, 2022, the outflow of refugees from Ukraine was replaced by an influx, which lasted until September 23, 2022 and amounted to 409,000 people.
