SBU puts Patriarch of Russian Orthodox Church Kirill on wanted list

KYIV. Dec 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has put Patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Kirill (Vladimir Gundyaev) on the wanted list, the relevant information appeared in the database of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine.

According to these data, Gundyaev has been wanted since November 11. He is wanted as a person hiding from the pre-trial investigation authorities in the case of attacks on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine.

He was given a preventive measure in the form of detention in absentia.

As reported, in November the SBU notified Gundyaev of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 110 (encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine), Part 3 of Article 436-2 (justification, recognition as lawful, denial of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, glorification of its participants), Part 5 of Article 27 and Part 2 of Article 437 (planning, preparation, initiation and conduct of aggressive war).

The investigation established that the head of the Russian Orthodox Church “is part of the inner circle of the highest military-political leadership of Russia and was one of the first to publicly support the full-scale war against Ukraine.” The Patriarch disseminates pro-Kremlin propaganda in the form of online sermons or his own video comments, and uses for this purpose the religious communities of the Russian Orthodox Church under his control in the Russian Federation and representatives of the UOC (MP) in Ukraine.
