Sweden, Denmark sign memo of Denmark on support for Ukraine in armored vehicles

KYIV. Dec 18 (Interfax-Ukraine) – On Monday, December 18, Swedish Defense Minister Paul Jonson visited Copenhagen for talks with Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen. During the visit, they discussed support for Ukraine, current NATO issues and the upcoming Danish chairmanship of the Nordic Defense Cooperation (Nordefco) in 2024, the press service of the Swedish government reports.

“During the visit, the defense Ministers of Sweden and Denmark signed a joint letter of intent on further support for Ukraine in the field of armored vehicles. Denmark will initially make a financial contribution of 1.8 billion Danish crowns (about $191.5 million), and Sweden will support purchases under the agreement signed between the Swedish Defense Equipment Administration (FMV) and Ukraine in July this year,” the message says.

The letter of intent means that the parties will work on the purchase of additional CV90 combat vehicles for Ukraine, which will strengthen the overall potential of the Ukrainian defense forces.

“This is an important step in supporting the Ukrainian defense forces together with Denmark. We will use the industrial potential to ensure the supply of new CV90 combat vehicles to Ukraine. CV90s have been and remain an important addition to Ukraine’s defense since Sweden handed over 50 vehicles earlier this year,” stressed Jonson.
