Zelenskyy: We need to think about multiple citizenship

KYIV. Dec 20 (Interfax-Ukraine) – President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy supports the consideration of the issue of multiple citizenship.

“We probably need to think about multiple citizenship. There is a corresponding law. And the EU countries – and we will be there in the near future – so, I don’t see anything wrong with such proposals,” Zelenskyy said at a press conference on Tuesday.

He recalled that he had raised the issue of multiple citizenship even before the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation.

“It was in our program. I really think this is normal. And I believe that there really are 60 million Ukrainians in the world. And not everyone needs to live in Ukraine. Everyone has his own story, families, someone was born in Canada, in the United States, but we should give them the opportunity to support Ukraine, feel that they are Ukrainians, help, open a business here, pay taxes,” the President explained.

The Head of State added that it is necessary to think about this. “Time is important. It should be done in due time,” he noted.

According to Zelenskyy, “there are subtle points in multiple citizenship.”
