Ukraine, France building up air defense and missile cooperation – Defense Ministry

KYIV. Dec 28 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Deputy Defense Minister of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Ivan Havryliuk, during a meeting with the delegation of the French Senate, thanked France for joining in the integrated air defense and missile coalition of Ukraine.

The founding meeting of this coalition took place in Berlin under the chairmanship of France and Germany, the press service of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry said.

The ministry is counting on additional supplies of modern air defense systems and missiles for them within the framework of the coalition’s activities, Havryliuk said.

“We need additional anti-aircraft guided missiles and radar reconnaissance assets, primarily to identify and destroy enemy ballistic missiles,” he said.

The deputy minister also expressed interest in training Ukrainian military pilots in France, in increasing the number of training grounds for technical and support personnel to service Western-type aircraft.

As reported, on November 22, at the 17th meeting in the Ramstein format, a coalition of ground-based air defense systems was created. Twenty countries joined it under the leadership of Germany and France.
