KYIV. Oct 29 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Deputy Head of the President’s Office of Ukraine Ihor Zhovkva had a telephone conversation with Head of the European Commission’s Representation in Sweden Christian Danielsson regarding Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and the need to strengthen sanctions against the aggressor country, the press service of the head of state reported.
"The sides exchanged views on the situation around Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine and agreed on the need to tighten international pressure on the aggressor country and make every effort to maintain European unity on issues related to the international isolation of the Russian Federation, the strengthening of sanctions pressure and the achievement of complete independence from Russian energy resources," the statement said.
Zhovkva noted Sweden’s support for the independence of Ukraine, as well as the readiness to actively join in its post-war restoration.
The parties focused on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union and the priorities of the Swedish presidency of the EU Council in the first half of 2023. The parties coordinated positions on achieving the development of Ukraine on the European integration path and agreed to deepen the dialogue in this direction.
"The Swedish presidency of the EU Council should become a start of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union and serve as a driving force for the constant comprehensive support of Ukraine by the European community," Zhovkva stressed.
In addition, the parties agreed on the need for further integration of Ukraine into the EU internal market and the introduction of the necessary reforms for this.
"We hope that we will be able to use Sweden’s practical experience in joining the European Union to achieve further progress on the European integration path," the official stressed.
