KYIV. Nov 7 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Russian troops have damaged 2,740 educational institutions since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, 333 of them have been completely destroyed, said Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Serhiy Shkarlet.
"Some 333 educational institutions were destroyed by Russian bombing and shelling, 2,406 were damaged," Shkarlet wrote on Telegram on Monday.
He also said that the agency signed a memorandum with the public organization Dobrobat – volunteer construction battalion, which has six construction battalions in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Sumy, Mykolaiv and Zaporizhia regions. The organization helps with the urgent restoration of educational institutions.
"In Kharkiv, for example, a local battalion in educational institutions clogs broken windows with slabs to protect buildings from further destruction. Dobrobat members helped the College of Construction, Architecture and Design. The institution is located in the center of Kharkiv – not a single window has survived due to the constant bombing," the minister said.
The head of the ministry noted that since there are a lot of destroyed houses and educational institutions in Ukraine, the visits of Dobrobat battalions take place almost every day. "And I am proud that our students and pupils are active volunteers. They are worthy citizens of our state," Shkarlet added.
