BRUSSELS. Nov 9 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The European Commission hopes to reach agreement with Hungary on further legal support for the decision to provide Ukraine with up to EUR 18 billion in a new format of Macro-Financial Assistance+ (MFA+) in 2023.
Executive Vice-President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis, who announced the proposal in Brussels on Wednesday, answered a question about possible blocking of this decision by Budapest.
This proposal will ensure the predictability and stability of support for Ukraine, he said, adding that the European Commission is currently working on a timeframe to complete the legislative process of these proposals this year. The Czech presidency hopes the decision will be approved on December 6 at the economic council, Dombrovskis said, adding that the issue requires working with the Member States, including Hungary, so that a positive solution can be reached.
Earlier, Bloomberg reported citing its informed sources that Hungary would not support the amendments necessary for preparing a package of assistance for Ukraine of up to EUR 18 billion next year.
