EU allocates EUR 8 bln for military assistance to Ukraine – Borrell

KYIV. Nov 14 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The military assistance of the EU and the EU states to Ukraine [to confront the aggressor country of Russia in a full-scale war] reaches a total of EUR 8 billion, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell has said.

“Member-states [represented by the Foreign Ministers] discussed the amount of our military support. More details will come tomorrow [after the meeting of the EU Council on Foreign Affairs in the format of Defense Ministers]. But allow me to say we should not confuse EUR 3.1 billion from the European Peace Facility with the military support of the European Union and its member states to Ukraine,” Borrell said at a press conference in Brussels after a meeting of the EU Council at the level of foreign ministers on Monday.

According to him, the erroneous comparison of the figures of EU military assistance with U.S. military assistance to Ukraine sometimes confuses. He said that he asked the military of the European Foreign Policy Service subordinate to him to calculate more precisely the amount of European military assistance to Ukraine, and this figure will be reported to journalists on Tuesday in connection with a meeting of the heads of defense departments.

“But I can say that at least EUR 8 billion of military equipment have already been provided to Ukraine. This was done by the European Union and its member-states: 45% of the effort done by the USA. So, it’s not negligible. We are talking about not EUR 3.1 billion, but about EUR 8 billion of military support,” the head of the EU diplomacy stressed.
