Ukrainian MFA urges Serbia not to allow broadcasting of Russia Today

KYIV. Nov 15 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine calls on Serbia not to allow the broadcasting of Russia Today, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleh Nikolenko said.

"Media reports that Serbia is considering granting permission to broadcast Russia Today… We urge Belgrade not to make such a decision. Granting permission to broadcast Russia Today will not be in line with Serbia’s course towards obtaining EU membership, which previously imposed sanctions against this Russian propaganda resource," Nikolenko saidon Facebook on Monday.

He said Russia Today regularly justifies aggression against Ukraine and calls for the genocide of Ukrainians.

"RT has nothing to do with freedom of speech and journalism. Propaganda and misinformation spread by this channel will not benefit Serbian society," Nikolenko said.

The spokesperson said the Serbian government should also understand that at any moment RT could begin to undermine the situation in Serbia itself.
