Zelensky: I anticipated NATO's positive response on calling urgent online summit due to mass missile, drone attacks on Ukraine since Oct 10

KYIV. Oct 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) – President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that since October 10 he has been anticipating NATO’s positive response to the proposal to call an urgent online summit on Russia’s massive missile and drone attacks on Ukraine.

"I really wanted, starting from October 10, to hear the Alliance’s positive response, and I personally talked to many leaders of the Alliance members, including Secretary General, about calling an urgent NATO summit online on massive execution of Ukraine, because I cannot say it different, with Russian missiles and Iranian drones. I did not receive that response," he said in an interview with journalists in Kyiv on Wednesday.

The head of state also said that on Tuesday, during Russia’s repeated massive attack on the Ukrainian infrastructure, the country’s military did an excellent job and shot down more than 70% of enemy missiles. However, according to Zelensky, he did not hear from the western partners any positive feedback about work of the Ukrainian Air Force.

"Our air defense worked excellent, we shot down the majority of missiles. I want to thank them – good job. I would like to hear from our partners that our forces did a good job. And during the G20 summit – that our army [did a good job]. ‘Something’ hit Poland. This is a tragedy. I want all of us to understand: the outpost is Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, our real air defense is a live shield for the entire eastern Europe. It is true and I wish we heard this yesterday. But we did not," he said.
