KYIV. Nov 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has addressed the parliaments of the world with a call to recognize the 1932-1933 Holodomor famine as genocide of the Ukrainian people.

Some 310 members of parliament voted in favor of draft resolution No. 8199 at the plenary session on Wednesday, member of the Holos faction Yaroslav Zhelezniak said on the Telegram channel.

According to the explanatory note to the draft resolution, the 1932-1933 Holodomor famine was a result of the criminal policy and totalitarian regime, which caused terrible death of people while ships loaded with Ukrainian grain were leaving Ukrainian ports.

The document says that today, when Ukraine is again facing Russian aggression, when mass violations of the rights and freedoms of Ukrainian citizens occur, it is important to remember the history lessons.
