Ukraine may receive first tranche of EUR 18 bln MFA in Jan 2023 – Dombrovskis

KYIV. Nov 18 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine will receive the first tranche of EUR 18 billion of macro-financial assistance+ (MFA) in January 2023, Executive Vice President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis has said.

Dombrovskis said at a joint press conference with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal in Kyiv on Friday that as for 2023, the goal is to cover a significant part of Ukraine’s financial deficit. In particular, the EU plans to do this through an instrument that we call Macro-Financial Assistance+, and up to EUR 18 billion will be provided as part of this assistance.

He said that this MFA+ would have some conditions for receiving funds.

This, in particular, refers to steps aimed at strengthening good governance, as well as the fight against corruption.

He said that a memorandum of understanding needs to be signed, for this we are waiting for the final approval of the program by the legislators of the European Union, he said.

Dombrovskis expects the program to be approved early December, which will allow the European Commission to provide the first tranche as early as at the beginning of January 2023.

In turn, Shmyhal expressed the hope that this tranche would be received in January.
