Kyiv accepted into Association of Francophone Mayors – Klitschko

KYIV. Nov 18 (Interfax-Ukraine) – On Friday, November 18, at the Francophonie summit in Tunisia, Kyiv was admitted to the International Association of Francophone Mayors, Vitali Klitschko, mayor of the Ukrainian capital, said.

"Today, at the Francophonie Summit, its participants unanimously supported and included Kyiv in the International Association of Francophone Mayors [AIMF]. I have already received congratulations from the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo. It was she who, during her visit to Kyiv in April this year, offered Kyiv to apply for membership in the Association," Klitschko said, the mayor’s press service reports.

It is noted that AIMF is a platform of mayors, officials of capitals and large cities from 48 countries, where residents learn, communicate and spread the French language. The Association provides local government leaders with space for dialogue and exchange of best practices in urban development. This contributes to strengthening ties, gaining experience and developing solidarity among its members. By participating in major international conferences and establishing relationships with development agencies and multilateral donors, AIMF provides its members with the opportunity to implement best practices in promoting democracy, respect for gender equality, sustainable urban development, and to implement joint projects that benefit urban communities.
