Number of Ukraine's refugees with status of temporary protection in Europe reached 4.75 mln, Poland, Germany, Czech Republic are leaders – UN

KYIV. Nov 28 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The number of refugees from Ukraine registered for temporary protection or similar national protection schemes in Europe reached 4.751 million as of November 22, 2022, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said on your website.

For the month since October 25, the growth amounted to 324,320, while for the previous two months some 242,900 and 214,300, respectively, and since the end of May about 1.8 million.

The largest increase over the past month was shown by Germany about 206,500, Poland about 38,900, France about 14,000, Romania some 11,700 and the Czech Republic about 9,500.

According to UNHCR data collected from national governments, the largest number of refugees with temporary protection status in Poland is 1.508 million, while, according to the Polish border service, some 8.008 million people have arrived in the country from Ukraine since the beginning of the war, and in the opposite direction departed to Ukraine 6.196 million.

Following are Germany and the Czech Republic, where the number of refugees from Ukraine registered for temporary protection amounted to 1.022 million and 462,410, respectively.

Italy is still in fourth place with 164,170 (an increase of 3,500), and Spain closes the top five with 154,460 (an increase of 5,200).

They are followed by the UK some 146,200 (an increase of 7,800) and Bulgaria with an indicator of 146,030 (an increase of 3,300) the only one in which the number of registered with the status of temporary protection is much higher than the number of recorded refugees from Ukraine 51,860.

More than 100,000 Ukrainians registered for temporary protection are in two more countries, France and Slovakia: respectively 118,990 (data as of October 21) and 101,240 (an increase of 2,700).

From 50,000 to 100,000 refugees from Ukraine with the status of temporary protection also in Romania some 87,890, Austria some 86,900 (an increase of 2,100), the Netherlands some 79,250 (data as of September 30), Lithuania some 70,670 (an increase of less than 2,000, as well as for other countries below, where the dynamics is not indicated)

Among them are also Switzerland some 69,610 (an increase of 2,800), Ireland some 64,280 (an increase of 3,800), Belgium some 59,530 and Portugal some 52, 880 (data as of October 3).

Following with indicators from 25,000 to 50,000 are Sweden some 48,360, Finland some 43,810, Latvia some 42,820 (an increase of 2,100),

This category also includes Estonia some 38,730, Denmark some 34,950, Hungary some 32,270, Norway some 32,100.

From 10,000 to 25,000 refugees from Ukraine with the status of temporary protection in Greece some 20,000 thousand, Croatia some 19,130 and Cyprus some 18,290.

UNHCR said that by the middle of 2021 there were only 53,470 Ukrainian refugees in the world who applied for the appropriate status, of which 36,490 were in Europe.
