Nov 28 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Head of the President’s Office of Ukraine Andriy Yermak has met with Coordinator of the United States Department of State for Sanctions James O’Brien, who is paying a visit to Ukraine, and discussed with him the effectiveness of restrictive measures taken at this stage against the Russian Federation, as well as the prospects for their expansion.
As reported on the website of the President’s Office on Monday, Yermak noted the leadership role of the United States in supporting our country in the fight against Russian aggression. "One of the key areas of such support is the sanctions policy," he stressed.
Yermak informed O’Brien about the progress and results of the activities of the International Working Group on Sanctions against the Russian Federation, which is headed by head of the Office of the President and Director of the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies (FSI), Ambassador Michael McFaul. It was noted that the group had recently submitted its latest document entitled "Measures to improve the effectiveness of sanctions".
Separately, the interlocutors noted the importance of increasing sanctions pressure on the Russian Federation. Yermak paid special attention to the issue of determining the mechanisms for recognizing Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism.
The parties agreed to strengthen coordination on strengthening sanctions pressure on the Russian Federation, the report emphasizes.
Yermak also thanked the American side for participating in the founding summit of the International Summit on Food Security within the framework of the Grain from Ukraine humanitarian program, as well as for a significant financial contribution to the Ukrainian grain initiative.
