Steinmeier: Russia-Ukraine truce to only consolidate existing injustice

KYIV. Nov 29 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The conclusion of a truce between Russia and Ukraine at the current stage will lead to the legitimization of violations of international law committed by Russia, President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier believes.

"The ceasefire regime at the moment will consolidate the injustice that has already been caused. This would mean that Russia retains the occupied territory, which means that violation of borders, disregard for international law and theft of territory will be approved. This cannot be the meaning of the ceasefire regime fire," Steinmeier told Deutsche Welle.

At the same time, he said, at the current phase of the war there is no military solution to the current situation.

"Thank God, people in Ukraine are brave, they meet the threat with full dedication. We also see the Ukrainian army, which, it would seem, repelled such a super-strong enemy in the face of the Russian army. But this is not the decisive situation in which a way out is already visible. In any case case, I do not see it. And all the advice to establish a ceasefire now is, of course, frivolous," Steinmeier said.
