Pentagon, Raytheon Technologies sign contract for manufacture of six NASAMS air defense systems for Ukraine

KYIV. Dec 1 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The U.S. Department of Defense and the U.S. corporation Raytheon Technologies have signed a contract to manufacture six more National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Systems (NASAMS) for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the press service of the U.S. Defense Department reported.

As part of the fifth Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, the U.S. Raytheon Technologies was awarded a $1.2 billion contract to supply Ukraine with six NASAMS systems, training, and logistical support for the Ukrainian Armed and Security Forces, the Pentagon said in a statement.

As reported, on November 7, two NASAMS systems arrived in Ukraine. The United States has pledged to send eight National Advanced Air Defense Systems (NASAMS) to Ukraine. Two of these systems will be delivered in the next few weeks. More will be delivered to Ukraine as they are built.

NASAMS is a mobile surface-to-air missile system of short and medium range, designed to deal with air targets at low and medium altitudes. It’s capable of destroying drones, ballistic and cruise missiles, helicopters, aircraft and other air targets. The system was developed by the Norwegian company Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace and the U.S. Raytheon Technologies.
