Twenty-eight Allies demand from Hungary resumption of work of NATO-Ukraine Commission – Stefanishyna

KYIV. Dec 1 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Twenty-eight NATO Member States demand in writing from Hungary the resumption of work of the NATO-Ukraine Commission at the summit level, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Olha Stefanishyna has said.

"Currently, 28 of 30 Allies demand from Hungary the resumption of work of the Commission. This is an official position reported by the Allies. There are several instruments of political pressure, and they will use all of them," she said at Kyiv Security Forum on Thursday, organized by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk Open Ukraine Foundation.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, this discussion came down to bilateral relations of Ukraine and Hungary before the beginning of the war.

"Today it is obvious that such a position of Hungary does not withstand any criticism, and it is absolutely incompatible with the challenges and issues that need to be discussed. Meetings of the Commission at the level of presidents or at least ministers are vital. It is not just about holding regular political meetings now, it is a vital need to hold formal meetings, formulate official decisions and plan further defense, political support and membership issues accordingly," Stefanishyna said.

As reported, Hungary has been blocking meetings of the NATO-Ukraine Commission at the levels higher than ambassadors since 2017.
