Naftogaz head at meeting with G7, EU ambassadors estimates need for gas imports at 3 bcm this winter

KYIV. Dec 1 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Oleksiy Chernyshov, the head of the board of NJSC Naftogaz Ukrainy, at a meeting with G7 ambassadors and the EU delegation assessed the country’s need for gas imports at 3 billion cubic meters (bcm) during this heating period, taking into account war risks.

"According to the preliminary calculations of the Ministry of Energy, taking into account war risks, an additional 3 billion cubic meters of gas is needed for the heating season, which in monetary terms today is more than $4 billion. For this we need the help of our foreign partners," he said.

According to Chernyshov, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the aggressor country has destroyed more than 300 energy infrastructure facilities in Ukraine. In particular, on November 17, more than 10 gas production facilities were attacked.

The Naftogaz head recalled that one of his primary tasks in this position is to restore confidence in the company on the part of foreign partners and holders of eurobonds, in particular, to announce a competition for the positions of members of the supervisory board of in accordance with OECD standards.

The parties also discussed Naftogaz’s strategy for partnerships with foreign governments and businesses.

"Naftogaz is open to strengthening cooperation with our foreign partners. We offer the governments and businesses of the G7 and the EU member states cooperation in production of hydrocarbons in Ukraine," Chernyshov added.
