Delivery of air, missile defense systems to Ukraine to happen very soon – Yermak after meeting with MEPs

KYIV. Dec 2 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Head of the President’s Office of Ukraine Andriy Yermak discussed with the delegation of the European Parliament in Kyiv support for Ukraine in the energy sector, as well as joint work on the creation of an International Special Tribunal.

"We talked about challenges. About the support of the European Parliament with real deeds – supporting the creation of a special tribunal, real assistance to the energy infrastructure," Yermak said at a briefing in Kyiv on Friday. Among other things, he said, the Kyiv Security Compact and President Zelensky’s peace plan were also discussed.

According to him, one of the main places in the negotiations is also the supply of air and missile defense systems to Ukraine. "We expect to provide Ukraine with air and missile defense systems as part of the Kyiv Security Compact. We have the potential consent of all the countries that we see as the first guarantors. We are doing our best to turn this into concrete agreements. It will happen very soon," he said.

"No one can say that Ukraine does not want peace," said Nathalie Loiseau, head of the European Parliament’s subcommittee on national security and defense. She recalled the European Parliament’s resolution on the recognition of Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism, including the recognition of the Wagner Group as a terrorist organization.

She also noted the importance of resolving the issue of seizure of the assets of the aggressor state, while noting that this is "not a very easy task."

According to her, they also discussed increasing assistance to Ukraine, including the supply of transformers. "Our message as the European Parliament is that the European Commission should evaluate all the criteria for Ukraine’s accession to the EU as soon as possible," she said.

Urmas Paet, Vice-Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament, noted that "no EU candidate country has been so emotionally connected with the EU as Ukraine."

"It is a tragedy what is happening here. But the decision to provide military and economic assistance is based on the emotional connection we have," Paet said.
