First ship with 25,000 tonnes of Ukrainian grain arrives in Ethiopia

KYIV. Dec 5 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The first ship carrying 25,000 tonnes of Ukrainian grain arrived in Ethiopia as part of President Volodymyr Zelensky’s Grain from Ukraine humanitarian program, the president’s press service has reported.

"The first ship within the Ukrainian humanitarian program Grain from Ukraine arrived in Ethiopia on December 3, delivering 25,000 tonnes of Ukrainian wheat to the port of Doraleh," the press service said.

Zelensky announced this program on November 15 during the G20 summit.

The second ship, the loading of which is being completed in the Ukrainian port of Chornomorsk, next week will head to Ethiopia with 30,000 tonnes of wheat on board. The third ship will deliver 25,000 tonnes of humanitarian wheat to Somalia (loading in the port of Odesa).

"In total, within the framework of the Grain from Ukraine humanitarian initiative, our state plans to send more than 60 ships to Ethiopia, Sudan, South Sudan, Somalia, Congo, Kenya, Yemen, etc.," the press service said.

More than $180 million has been raised for the implementation of this program.
