Ukrainian MFA calls for development of new security system, implementation of recommendations of Kyiv Security Treaty – statement

KYIV. Dec 6 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has issued a statement on the occasion of the 28th anniversary of the signing of the Budapest Memorandum, stating that this document has not become a guarantor of the security of Ukraine, which is subjected to armed aggression.

As noted in a statement issued by the press service of the Foreign Ministry on Monday, Russia’s violation of its obligations as a guarantor state underscores the need to develop a new high-quality system of security guarantees for Ukraine and the world, which make it impossible to repeat Russian aggression.

“One of the guarantor states – the Russian Federation – has defiantly violated its obligations under the Budapest Memorandum and international law, by occupying part of the sovereign territory of Ukraine and unleashing a full-scale war against Ukraine,” the document reads.

The Foreign Ministry called on Ukraine’s partners to implement the recommendations of the Kyiv Security Treaty, prepared by an international working group chaired by Head of the President’s Office of Ukraine Andriy Yermak and former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen.
