Court in Tbilisi to consider possible deferral of Saakashvili's incarceration

TBILISI. Dec 6 (Interfax) – A court in Tbilisi will consider a possible deferral of the incarceration of former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, lawyer Ilia Lomia told reporters on Tuesday.

"A hearing for a possible deferral of the imprisonment of former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili due to his diagnosed condition will take place at the Tbilisi City Court on December 9," Lomia said.

In turn, Vivamedi clinic chief physician Zurab Chkhaidze told reporters that Saakashvili was stable. "His condition does not require a transfer to ICU," Chkhaidze said.

The family and friends of Saakashvili claim that is he critical and unable to take food, which is why a court should release him from custody and authorize his transfer to a clinic abroad.
