European Commission proposes to step up pressure on Russia with ninth package of sanctions – statement

KYIV. Dec 7 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The European Commission on Wednesday proposed to introduce the ninth package of sanctions against Russia that includes a ban on transactions between three Russian banks and other measures.

According to a statement by President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen on the new package of sanctions, it is proposed to add almost 200 additional individuals and entities to the sanctions list, introduce sanctions against three additional Russian banks, including the Russian Regional Development Bank, as well as take four additional Russian channels off the air and all other distribution platforms.

The European Commission’s proposals also include cutting Russia’s access to all sorts of drones and unmanned aerial vehicles. In addition, it proposed to impose new export controls and restrictions, particularly for dual-use goods, such as "key chemicals, nerve agents, electronics and IT components that could be used by the Russian war machine."
