By KYIV. Dec 8 (Interfax-Ukraine) – President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed the ruling of the French Court of Cassation to recover funds from Russia in favor of Oschadbank.
"Today there is a very important result in France. The Court of Cassation of France upheld the decision to recover in favor of the Ukrainian Oschadbank from the aggressor state. The amount with accrued interest is almost $1.5 billion," he said.
"This lawsuit has been going on since 2015. More than six years of struggle, tens of thousands of pages of legal documents, many hopes and no less skepticism, some have expressed… But there is this victory for Ukraine," he said.
"Russia will be responsible for all stolen assets of the Ukrainian state and companies. This is the first victory of a state-owned company in courts against Russia over what was seized in Crimea, and I am grateful to everyone who ensured this result," Zelensky also said.
The French Court of Cassation upheld the ruling of the International Arbitration Court to recover $1.1 billion from Russia in favor of the state-owned Oschadbank (Kyiv) for the bank’s loss of assets due to the annexation of Crimea.
