Bundestag member confirms that U.S. to approve transfer of Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine

KYIV. Dec 8 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Chairperson of the Defense Committee of the German Bundestag Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann has confirmed that the United States will approve the transfer of Leopard 2 tanks from Germany to Ukraine.

"This has also been confirmed during my visit to Washington and my discussions in the Department of State, Congress and Senate. Our partners expect Germany to fulfill its obligations. We should not leave Ukraine alone. They need tanks," she said on Twitter on Thursday, commenting a report by FAZ.

Earlier, the publication reported citing its sources that the United States has notified Germany of the approval of supplies of German Leopard 2 tanks to the Armed Forces of Ukraine if the German side makes such a decision.

Later, Spokesperson for the U.S. National Security Council Adrienne Watson announced that the U.S. reserves the right for Germany to independently make a decision on what kind of weapons Berlin wants to supply to the Ukrainian army.
