About 40% of all citizens' appeals relate to language of Internet representations – language Ombudsman

KYIV. Dec 12 (Interfax-Ukraine) – About 40% of all citizens’ appeals to the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language relate to the language of Internet representations.

"As of today, most Internet representative offices whose functioning does not meet the requirements of the law on the state language, after a warning from the commissioner about responsibility, promptly eliminate violations: a version in Ukrainian is created, the Ukrainian-language version is downloaded, the presentation of information in a non-state version is eliminated," the language Ombudsman said in a statement.

At the same time, it is noted that the effectiveness of responding to reports of violation of the language of Internet representations is complicated by the fact that: in the vast majority of cases, information about the business entity represented by them (the name of a legal entity or individual entrepreneur) is not indicated on Internet representations (websites, pages and channels in social media, etc.), registration data from state registers), contact details of the subject; about 90% of complaints about the violation of the language of Internet representations do not contain information about the relevant business entity; the establishment of information about the business entity within the powers of the Commissioner for the protection of the state language often involves official correspondence, in particular with other government agencies and requires considerable time.

"At the same time, it should be noted that applicants are usually consumers of goods and services that are produced by business entities that use Internet representations in their activities," the report says.
