Ukraine's Border Guard Service says Belarus army's combat readiness check doesn't change anything

KYIV. Dec 13 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Spokesman for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine Andriy Demchenko has said, commenting on the announcement of Belarus army’s combat readiness check, that the Ukrainian forces are monitoring the situation, however, this does not change anything for Ukraine.

"Today, the Defense Ministry of Belarus announced a check of its units’ combat readiness. However, the defense forces of Ukraine are monitoring the situation in order to understand what kind of a threat this fact may cause to Ukraine," he told a Tuesday press briefing at the Ukraine Media Center in Kyiv.

According to Demchenko, the announcement of this check by Belarus is "an additional challenge."

"We will monitor the development of the situation, in particular, how close the units would approach the border with Ukraine. This does not change anything… We must do everything possible to make sure that our border line is ready to defeat any aggression, any attack, of any units that might try to go to war against us," he said.

The spokesman also said that, in general, the situation on the border with Belarus did not change is remains fully under control.

"I would like to note that the units of the Armed Forces of Belarus, which had been on the border of Ukraine for strengthening, since they allegedly saw some threat from our side, they are still there. There number and nature of actions did not change," he said.
