KYIV. May 12 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Security Operation Center team of JSC Ukrtelecom together with a partner from the United States neutralized the impact and repelled another DDOS attack on the company’s information resources.
As the Ukrtelecom press service said on Thursday, during the cyberattack, which lasted a day and a half from the night of May 10, the operator’s specialists recorded a load with a capacity of up to 1 million packets per second. Due to the attack, access to the company’s websites was restricted for some time for security reasons.
"During the cyberattack, Ukrtelecom’s Security Operation Center specialists found out that the majority of attacking IPs (about 85%) were located within Ukraine. Considering the parameters of the cyberattack, when ‘cutting off from the world’ was not enough, the IT department decided to use help from a partner from the United States. Due to the use of the cloud infrastructure of the Ukrtelecom partner, it was possible to move information resources beyond the attack perimeter," the company said.
Ukrtelecom said the transfer of resources was carried out professionally and in the shortest possible time, which allowed gradual restoration of access to the company’s web resources within an hour.
Subsequent attempts by the attackers to carry out another DDOS attack no longer had any impact on the work of the company’s resources.
