Bulgaria provides Ukraine with humanitarian aid: helmets, bulletproof vests, winter clothes worth $243 mln from Feb 24 – ministry

KYIV. Dec 21 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Bulgarian Defense Minister Dimitar Stoyanov, while on a working visit to Kyiv at the invitation of his colleague, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov, said that since February 24, Bulgaria has provided humanitarian assistance to Ukraine in the amount of BGN 448 million ($243 million).

"I want to thank you for the opportunity to discuss further bilateral cooperation. Bulgaria strongly supports the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders. Our country does not recognize the annexation of sovereign Ukrainian territories. We have excellent bilateral relations based on deep historical and cultural ties with Ukrainian people," the press service of the Bulgarian Ministry of Defense said, citing Stoyanov.

He said that since the beginning of the Russian armed aggression, Bulgaria has provided humanitarian assistance to Ukraine in the amount of BGN 448 million. Thus, the Bulgarian Ministry of Defense provided humanitarian assistance in the form of 2,000 helmets and 2,000 body armor, 350 first aid kits, 5,000 sets of winter clothes and 5,000 pairs of winter shoes.

It is noted that Bulgaria will provide weapons, equipment and ammunition free of charge, and will also contribute to the EUMAM training mission.

It is planned that up to 50 Bulgarian military personnel will participate in the training of weapons and equipment on the territory of the EU member states and/or in Bulgaria.

"It is also expected that up to 60 military doctors of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be trained annually on our territory," the Bulgarian Ministry of Defense said.
