Situation in de-occupied settlements remains harsh due to constant shelling – head of Luhansk regional administration

KYIV. Dec 26 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The situation in de-occupied settlements of Luhansk region remains extremely difficult due to their constant shelling by the Russian occupation forces, head of the military regional administration Serhiy Haidai has said.

"If we talk about de-occupied settlements, then [the situation] is extremely difficult, because shelling does not stop there, unfortunately. Sometimes it is necessary to evacuate the wounded local residents. Everything related to the delivery of humanitarian, food packages – we have provided the local population with this. Now we provide household chemicals, essential medicines and kits for light repairs. We were already with the head of Ukrposhta and his team in de-occupied Nevske and gave out financial assistance from the Red Cross and pensions there. But it’s still hard, because the shelling doesn’t stop," he said at a briefing at the Ukraine-Ukrinform media center on Monday.

At the same time, regarding the temporarily occupied territory of Luhansk region, Haidai noted that in large cities where the active phase of hostilities took place, in particular, in Rubizhne and Severodonetsk, the situation is critical.

"The occupiers and collaborators have not prepared large cities for the heating period. They, for form’s sake, show how they bring firewood to multi-storey buildings [which is generally weird for us]. Although they do it literally once or twice – and then that’s it," the local governor said.
