Shmyhal: In absence of new shelling, New Year holidays to pass without emergency power outages

KYIV. Dec 27 (Interfax-Ukraine) – In the absence of new shelling from Russia, the New Year holidays will pass without emergency power outages, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal has said.

"We understand that Russia is preparing to continue attacks on the Ukrainian power system. So we are in daily readiness for new massive shelling. This can happen someday – today, tomorrow or even on New Year’s Eve. I want to emphasize: in the absence of shelling, the New Year holidays will pass without emergency power outages," he said at a government meeting on Tuesday.

According to the prime minister, Russia seeks not only to disable the next substation or power line, but wants to sow panic.

"But it will not succeed. We believe in ourselves, in our army, in our power engineers, our partners. We will stand because we are united, strong and motivated to fight for our native land," Shmyhal summed up.
