Constitutional Court head to be elected after filling all vacancies of judges – Holovaty

KYIV. Dec 28 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Acting head of the Constitutional Court Serhiy Holovaty said that the head of the court would be elected after filling all the vacancies of judges of the Constitutional Court.

"We are approaching the European Union when it is necessary to take [the decision to elect the head of the court] by consensus," Holovaty said at a briefing on Wednesday in Kyiv, answering the question of when judges would be able to elect the head of the court.

He stressed that ten votes of judges are needed for effective voting on the election of the head of the court, but now there are 13 judges in the Constitutional Court instead of 18, so each vote is of great importance (quorum is 12 judges).

"This is the point. We will wait until the subjects of appointing judges fill the vacancies, and we have five of them. For discussing the candidacy of the head, each vote is important," the acting head of the court added.

He stressed that these are the objective conditions in which the court finds itself.
