By KYIV. Jan 2 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Russia has all types of nuclear weapons in its arsenal – both tactical and strategic – Ukraine’s military intelligence constantly monitors its transfers, Spokesman for the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Defense Ministry of Ukraine Vadym Skibitsky has said.
"Firstly, we know all the storage locations. Secondly, we know the number and location of exactly strategic carriers of nuclear weapons. We constantly monitor all transfers of these carriers. We monitor all activities that might be or are being held by the 12th Chief Directorate of the Defense Ministry of Russia. It is responsible for preparation and delivery of nuclear weapons," he said on air of the national telethon on Monday.
Skibitsky stressed that this process is uneasy, however "we have experience in monitoring and surveillance of strategic and other training of exactly the nuclear forces since 2014 and earlier."
"We know all procedures. That is why the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Defense Ministry of Ukraine constantly controls exactly the nuclear component of the Russian armed forces," he said, adding that today there are questions to the condition of tactical nuclear shells, since they were produced back in the Soviet Union times.
"We are prepared, we have the alarm system, we constantly monitor and try to detect all signs concerning the preparations for possible use, deployment and especially transfer closer to Ukraine of tactical and any other types of nuclear weapons," Skibitsky said.
